Following Chinese Reading and Writing 1 & 2, this book continues to introduce 50 new characters and their extensive usage. More useful and expressive words and expressions are formed with the old and new characters. Students begin to practice longer paragraphs. We recommend students start this book after they finish Mandarin Express Basic Level A.
At this point, students understand that learning Chinese reading and writing is not just about accumulation of single characters, rather, it is how to build meaningful text with the learned characters. The essential ability lies in knowing where to draw word boundaries, and correctly judging the meaning of a given word. It is critical to understand Chinese text in its entirety, which is way beyond recognising each single Chinese character.
Each lesson focuses on how to use 10 new characters. The total character count reaches 170. By the end of the book, students will get to a new level on Chinese reading and writing.
Same as the previous two Chinese Reading and Writing books, the selection of these 50 characters is also based on Chinese character occurrence frequency list, and adjusted by Mandarin Express series.
