The Enhanced Edition (2020) of Chinese Reading and Writing 2 teaches 50 new Chinese characters, which are selected because of their high occurrence frequency and their high-ranking places in Mandarin Express series. Two of the new characters are special characters which have two readings. The book presents 166 words and combinations, 10 key grammar points, 229 sentences, 21 conversations, and 9 short reading materials. All the words, sentences and paragraphs are illustrations to show students how these 50 characters are used. Special attention is paid to make sure that all illustrations are appropriate for lower level students.
The Enhanced Edition makes it more accessible for students to learn Chinese remotely. This book is supported with 19 animated video lessons, teaching characters and words, explaining grammar points, and demonstrating how to grasp the exact meaning of a character in a given context. These online lessons can be accessed by scanning the QR codes imbedded on the pages or be watched directly at our website.
This book is also supported with the use of Chinese Learning Pen, which is a digital tool enabling students to listen to any part of the texts in the book at will. Moreover, some interesting teacher’s notes are included in the book and can be listened to by using the Chinese Learning Pen to touch this icon.
On completing the book, students will have had extensive exercises to read and write Chinese texts using a total of 120 Chinese characters. Follow the illustrations in the book as examples, they will be able to write their own stories in Chinese. These exercises will bring students great insight into Chinese language.

The structure of the book follows the pattern of Awareness - Expansion - Practice - Consolidation, which has proved to be very effective to learn how to read and write Chinese while placing learning individual characters as the first step.
