This book is a continuation of Chinese Reading and Writing 2, and presents 50 new characters and their usage. The selection of the new characters is also based on their occurrence frequency and their places in Mandarin Express series. If used together with Mandarin Express series, the two series will create a favourable environment of re-enforcing each other.
The structure of the book includes five lessons with each one focusing on ten new Chinese characters and their usages, one review section which consolidates students’ learning, and a stroke order chart for quick references. More powerful and expressive words and expressions are created, and longer paragraphs are written.
On completing this book, students will have learned 170 Chinese characters, and reached a new level on Chinese reading and writing. Furthermore, students will have accumulated enough knowledge to appreciate that learning Chinese reading and writing is more than learning a list of individual characters. The essential ability lies in knowing where to draw word boundaries, and correctly judging the meaning of any given word within a context.
