Mandarin Express Intro Level A & B

Practice makes perfect. The more students speak Mandarin, the better they get.

These videos are provided as interesting materials for students to practice making conversations or presenting information and also to have some fun!

The following videos are based on Mandarin Express Intro Level A Student's Book and Intro Level B Student's Book.

Where are you from?

Lesson 1 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Practice introducing people in Chinese, asking and answering questions, “where is he/she from?”, and “which city?”. Students are encouraged to write a script based on the video and later act it out in class.

It’s nice to meet you!

Lesson 2 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Practice speaking useful phrases in Chinese, such as, “it’s nice to meet you”. Write a conversation in Chinese based on this video, using useful phrases, questions and answers learned in Lesson 2. Students are encouraged to act it out in class.

What is your telephone number?

Lesson 3 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Write a dialogue script based on the video, practice asking and answering important information in Chinese, such as names, nationality, contact numbers, and etc. Students are encouraged to act the scripts out in class, and have a few laughs!

What time is it now in HK?

Lesson 4 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Describe the video, and practice asking time related questions in Chinese, such as, what time is it in HK? What day is it tomorrow? Students are encouraged to write a script based on the video.

He is at the train station!

Lesson 5 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Write a dialogue based on the video, practice asking and answering questions, such as “where is he?”, “is she at … ?” in Chinese. Students are encouraged to improvise with additional information.

She gets up at seven in the morning.

Lesson 6 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Describe the video, practice giving information about daily routines in Chinese, such as “she gets up at seven in the morning”. Students are encouraged to read out their scripts, and possibly act out as well, in class.

What did you do last weekend?

Lesson 7 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Based on the video, write a dialogue between the two major characters. Practice asking and answering “what did you do last weekend?” Students are encouraged to add more details and act out their scripts in class.

Counties, languages and cities

Lesson 8 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Based on the video, identify which country is shown in the video, and what language is used by the majorities in this country. Finally name a city in this country.

Watch the video and practice food, drinks and measure words in Chinese. 

Follow up activity: practice selling and buying food. Students are encouraged to come with different scripts and act out their scripts in class.

Checking in a hotel

Lesson 10 Review - Mandarin Express Intro Level A

Watch the video and write two conversations in Chinese. One is about booking a hotel room. One is checking in the hotel. 

Follow up activity: write a conversation about checking out the hotel. Students are encouraged to improvise with details.
