About This Book
This book is for students who have built up a substantial amount of Chinese words and structures, are able to present their opinions and ideas, and to interact with native Chinese speakers on a higher level.
The structure of the book includes four units with each one revolving around one major theme, including Chinese history, businesses, science & technology, and life. Each unit consists of four long readings, which address different aspects of the theme and related arguments. One supplementary section is included in each unit, examining special characteristics of Chinese language. Key vocabularies are at the end of the book for quick references.
The approach of the book is to make students active Chinese learners. Students are expected to contribute to classes to a great extent, and to delve into complex issues and debates. Their full involvement is deliberately sought after. They are encouraged to do diligent research, to present their findings to the class, and to engage in exchanges of ideas.
